Choosing an SEMH school: questions to ask

Visiting a school is the best way to know whether it is right for your young person. Use this checklist on your visit. Tick questions off as you go: your progress is saved on this device.

Before you visit

Have your young person’s EHCP or most recent reports to hand, and make a short list of what matters most to them. If they feel able to come, a visit together helps you both picture the day. Many schools offer a quieter time for visits if a busy building feels overwhelming.

After the visit

Talk with your young person about how the visit felt as well as what they saw. Write down your impressions while they are fresh. If you would like the school to be named in the EHCP, tell your local authority caseworker, and ask the school whether it can meet the needs described.

Visiting LCE Academy

You are welcome to arrange a visit to see our building in Chadderton, meet the team and ask anything on this list. Visits do not create a trial or informal school place. Arrange a visit or call 07414 197687.
